Looking outwards toward the village. This is what stone hewed and built in 1345 looks like today. the doorway of St Mary and St Gregory at Staindrop, part of the Raby estates. , and the last resting place of the Nevilles. If you are keen history buffs, you will have read about the Gaunt family, Margaret Gaunt was married to Edward 1V and was the mother of the princes in the Tower. Joan Gaunt her relative was married to Ralph Neville and is buried in this church alongside him and his second wife.
There was a previous church on this site, just a bit smaller, dedicated to Gregory only.
