Koala in the Wild
Australian Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)
The word “Koala” is an Aboriginal word meaning “no water”.
Koala’s are nocturnal, tree dwelling marsupial mammals (this means it has a pouch in which to carry her young). They feed almost exclusively on the leaves of a few species of eucalpyt. They have long arms and powerful claws.

Thanks cherylc1. Yes, this would have to be one of my very favourite photos that I have taken. Their natural habitat near Cape Otway is probably “paradise” for these little guys. To me, it looks happy and content.

A nice find and a great shot ! Hard too, with the subject right up in a tree. He or she still looks a bit worried by your presence though. .

Thanks reflector. Yes, you are probably right, he or she does look a little bit apprehensive.

Fantastic shot. I never saw them wild. Those I have in my portfolio is from a “Coala park” outside Brisbane (I think).
