Thursday Island lies just 30km off Cape York Peninsula, Far North Queensland, in the heart of Torres Strait and is easily accessible by Ferry from Seisa.

During the pearling heyday, many young men from Wakayama Prefecture in Japan, came to Thursday Island to make their fortunes diving for pearls. Sadly, many lost their lives in pursuit of the valuable pearl shell and were laid to rest on Thursday Island. A memorial dedicated to the 700 men lost, stands alongside their graves.

The Pearling Industry today is based around the cultured pearl.

The cool sea breezes and brilliant skies attract adventurers and inquisitive travellers from across Australia and overseas to the shores of the Torres Strait Islands.

100% of proceeds received from Redbubble in respect to sales of “View to the Torres Strait Islands” will be donated to “thegreataustraliancancerbushwalk” for the Cancer Council.
