With these arms

I came across this marvelous creation at the Huntington Library in California several years ago. It has always been one of my favorites. The artist who carved this fabulous work captured the very essence of love enterchanging between the members of the family. The protective arms of the father, the closeness of the three in bodily contact, the eyes of the parents upon their infant, the trust of the mother in her husband’s arms and her arm cradling the child, the innocent joy of being alive shining from the child’s face, the seated position to indicate rest and lack of fear. A perfect work of peace, love and harmony. The whole message seems to say, “With these arms I will always hold you.”

There is so much spiritual feeling present in this work. The artist was a master at sculpture. The work uses every aspect of design to capture all available light, reflection and shadows to bring this work to life. I hope you like it.
